The answer is yes and no. No, in the sense that you can't be stuck in a state of hypnosis by a hypnotherapist. However, hypnosis is a natural state of consciousness and oftentimes today many people are overloaded by work, stress, life, and unknowingly are walking around in a state of hypnosis where they are highly suggestible to their environments, including negativity. In hypnotherapy, we always bring the client out of that state of Hypnosis to a more mindful present state. We also provide the tools needed to bring themselves up and out of environmental hypnosis so they are not susceptible to negativity in the world around them.
Hypnosis is a relaxed natural state of conscious that we move through just before going to sleep or when waking up. It's a frame of mind in which we are in a heightened state of awareness and become highly suggestible. In other words, It’s the subconscious part of the mind where our preprogrammed, autonomous responses and behaviors take place. In hypnotherapy, a trained, professional hypnotherapist uses this state as the gateway to access the subconscious part of the mind to recondition it to act in your benefit to remove unwanted habits to help you achieve your goals.
In hypnotherapy the hypnotherapist gains access to the subconscious part of the mind by creating an overload of message units to the conscious critical mind. This activates the parasympathetic nervous system which brings the client into a relaxed, highly suggestible, heightened state of awareness where they are given positive, empowering suggestions directly into the subconscious. No. In fact in Hypnosis you are in a heightened state of awareness and in total control. You cannot be made to say or do anything you do not want to. In hypnotherapy we only give suggestions to the client that come directly from the client themselves and are discussed with the client and agreed upon ahead of time in a precognitive discussion. We then give those suggestions directly into the subconscious where they replace unwanted behaviors with the new positive behaviors that move the client towards their life goals. Hypnotherapy is a way to take back control of your life.
